The anxiety is horrible, all I want to do is eat, but then I hate myself because I feel fat, everyone are onmy nerve, my house is a mess, but I have absolutely no motivation to clean it!

My skin is prickly and I'm getting random bumps and skin irritation. When I went to see my doctor about perimenopause, I told her about my frozen shoulder. She snotily said, "I've never heard of that before associated with perimenopause before!"

Why does my brain not work?? It's infuriating and scary, like do i have early onset dementia?!?!?The weight gain is insane for me. No energy, everything hurts, sex is making me uncomfortable!

Perimenopouse is SUCH F***ed UP!! Hot flashes, no sleep, hair falling, tired all day, can't lose a gram, if I do I gain 5lbs back, crying one minute, angry the next!

Who I am ...

Hello! I'm Megan Hormazdi, a dedicated daughter, loving mother, experienced nurse practitioner, and a certified Health Coach.

In 2004, my life took a dramatic turn as my family and I left our homeland, Iran, seeking safety and a new beginning in the United States. The journey was challenging, requiring us to learn a new language, adapt to a different culture, and rebuild our lives from scratch.

Amidst the stress of this major transition, life presented me with a myriad of health challenges. At 28, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was able to enter remission with the help of conventional medicine. Five years down the road, I was confronted with cancer again, but this time in my colon.

I tried various medications, diets, exercise routines, etc., but I still struggled with losing fat, feeling tired all the time, experiencing migraines, brain fog, and body aches. I finally decided I needed to address this in another way, and that's when I found Integrative Medicine.

Integrative Medicine delves deep into the root causes of physical, emotional, or spiritual challenges, paving the way for comprehensive healing. I've distilled my wealth of knowledge around mental health, holistic wellness, and harmonizing hormones, and transformed it into the Metabolic Hormone Balance Program.

If you are looking for answers, join me for a Hormone Chaos Consult.

Testimonials

Integrative medicine has been a game-changer for me!

Dealing with migraines and their medication side effects was no walk in the park, but I'm thrilled that I took the leap to explore alternative approaches.

Hormonal imbalances were affecting multiple aspects of my health, from migraines to blood pressure and mood. That's when I decided to consult with healthcare professionals specialized in integrative health. With their guidance, I gained valuable insights into the underlying causes of my symptoms.

Taking an active role in my healthcare decisions was empowering. Openly discussing my concerns and goals with my healthcare team helped create a personalized treatment plan tailored to my unique needs.

Sure, it's a journey that requires patience and persistence, but change is happening! With the support of integrative medicine, I'm regaining my sense of self and experiencing a life with renewed vitality.

Really good experience. I consulted with Megan, she was very thorough in both appointment, really listening to my concerns and finding the right supplements and life style changes needed to achieve my goal.

The second visit was a very detailed review of my blood work and I was very pleased about it. I’m 43-year-old with PCOS and starting to go into menopause, and after having gone to several doctors I finally found a place where they did the correct exams and truly listened to my concerns.

It’s pricey, but worth every penny. I highly recommend it.

Megan sent the LillyDirect script Friday morning; I ordered that afternoon and the vials arrived by Monday. By week 4, I felt more in control around food.

I have tried countless diets and exercise programs, but nothing ever gave me the sustainable results I was looking for.

That is, until a coworker shared her secret to success - hormone balancing with the "Hormone Matabolic Balance" program. If you're like me and have been let down by commercial weight loss strategies, it's time to try something different.

Within days of starting the program, I felt a significant improvement in my health and wellbeing. Now, after 45 days, I have lost 23lbs of my body weight and have experienced added benefits such as improved mental clarity and a more positive attitude towards life.

With the guidance of Megan, I have been able to stay committed to my goal and the progress has been so measurable that it's easy to stay motivated.

I am not hungry, I still eat out, and I am happier with my progress than I have ever been before. Don't settle for less, try hormone balancing with "Metabolic Hormone Balance" and discover your own secret to successful results!

Cortisol: Your Body's Drama Queen

Cortisol, often dubbed the "stress hormone," plays a pivotal role in regulating various bodily functions, including metabolism, immune response, and blood pressure. Its levels typically peak in the early morning and gradually decline throughout the day. However, disruptions in this diurnal pattern—such as consistently elevated or flattened cortisol levels—can have significant health implications.

The Health Implications of Disrupted Cortisol Patterns

Cardiovascular Risks: A study involving 1,090 participants from the KORA-F3 cohort found that individuals with dysregulated diurnal cortisol slopes had a higher risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Specifically, elevated late-night cortisol levels were associated with increased cardiovascular mortality and stroke risk. (Dysregulated diurnal cortisol patterns are associated with ...)

Diabetes Development: Research from the CARDIA study indicated that flatter diurnal cortisol curves were linked to a higher incidence of type 2 diabetes over a 10-year period. This association was particularly evident among middle-aged White participants.

Mental Health Concerns: Elevated morning cortisol levels have been associated with the onset of depression in adolescents and young adults. A meta-analysis highlighted that higher cortisol awakening responses could predict the development of depressive symptoms in this population. (The association between depression and the cortisol awakening response ...)

Integrative Medicine Approaches to Restoring Cortisol Balance

Integrative medicine emphasizes a holistic approach to health, combining conventional medical treatments with complementary therapies to address the root causes of health issues. When it comes to managing cortisol imbalances, integrative strategies may include:

  • Personalized Testing: Assessing cortisol levels at multiple points throughout the day to identify specific patterns and imbalances.

  • Lifestyle Modifications: Implementing stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness meditation, yoga, and regular physical activity. (The association between depression and the cortisol awakening response ...)

  • Nutritional Support: Adopting a balanced diet rich in nutrients that support adrenal health and hormonal balance.

  • Mind-Body Practices: Engaging in therapies like acupuncture or biofeedback to promote relaxation and resilience.

Conclusion

Maintaining a healthy cortisol rhythm is essential for overall well-being. Disruptions in this pattern can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and mental health disorders. By adopting integrative medicine approaches that focus on personalized care and holistic treatments, individuals can work towards restoring hormonal balance and enhancing their quality of life.

Fasting: The Mitochondrial Makeover Your Cells Crave

Fasting: Your Mitochondria’s Favorite Workout

Forget kale smoothies — your mitochondria (the tiny power plants inside your cells) might love fasting even more. Humans have been fasting for thousands of years, from ancient healing rituals to religious practices [1].

Science now shows that skipping a few meals flips your body into ketosis, where you burn fat instead of sugar [2], and your mitochondria throw a party.

During fasting, mitochondria clean house, boost their numbers (hello, biogenesis), and crank up energy production [3][4]. Powerful players like PGC-1α and Nrf2 get activated, helping fight oxidative stress and improving your brain, heart, muscles, gut, and immune system health [5][6][7][8].

From intermittent fasting to fasting-mimicking diets, these strategies may enhance cognitive performance, fight obesity and diabetes, and even slow aging [9][10]. Just remember: fasting isn’t for everyone, so partner with Your Integrative Health provider before trying it [11].

Bottom line: Giving your mitochondria a little “food vacation” could be one of the simplest ways to boost your energy and longevity!

PCOS: The Plot Twist You Didn't See Coming (But Can Totally Handle)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) might sound like a villain from a sci-fi movie, but it's a real-life hormonal rollercoaster affecting up to 20% of women worldwide. Symptoms like irregular periods, acne, and unexpected hair growth can feel like your body's throwing a tantrum. But fear not—there's a plot twist, and you're the hero.

Lifestyle Changes: Your Superpower

Recent research highlights that lifestyle interventions are the first line of defense against PCOS. A systematic review of 80 randomized controlled trials found that combining dietary changes, physical activity, and behavioral therapies can significantly improve reproductive, metabolic, and psychological outcomes in women with PCOS . (The Role of Lifestyle Interventions in PCOS Management: A Systematic Review)

Diet: Fueling Your Inner Warrior

Adopting a low-glycemic index diet, rich in fiber and antioxidants, can help regulate insulin levels and reduce inflammation. Think whole grains, leafy greens, and omega-3-rich foods like salmon and flaxseeds. These dietary changes have been associated with improved menstrual regularity and reduced androgen levels .

Exercise: Moving Towards Balance

Regular physical activity, especially aerobic exercises like brisk walking or cycling, can aid in weight management and improve insulin sensitivity. Studies suggest that incorporating at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week can lead to significant health benefits for women with PCOS .

Mind Matters: Stress Less, Smile More

Behavioral therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness practices, can alleviate stress and improve mental well-being. Addressing the psychological aspects of PCOS is crucial, as anxiety and depression are common among those affected .

The Takeaway

While PCOS can be a challenging journey, embracing lifestyle modifications offers a path to reclaiming control and improving quality of life. Remember, you're not alone, and with the right tools and support, you can navigate this condition with strength and resilience.

Always consult with a healthcare professional before making significant lifestyle changes.

Hot Flashes & Heart Health: The Sizzling Scoop on Menopausal Hormone Therapy

MHT: The Hot Topic

Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) is the go-to for managing hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. But its benefits and risks depend on timing, health status, and how it's taken.

Benefits

  • Symptom Relief: MHT is the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats.

  • Bone Health: Estrogen therapy reduces fracture risk in postmenopausal women.

  • Heart Health: Starting MHT before age 60 or within 10 years of menopause may lower heart disease risk.

  • Cognitive Health: Short-term MHT doesn't harm long-term brain function.

Risks

  • Cancer Risks: Combined synthetic estrogen-progestin therapy may increase breast cancer risk; Bio-Identical hormones may reduce endometrial cancer risk.

  • Cardiovascular Events: Some MHT formulations, especially oral conjugated equine estrogens, are linked to increased stroke and blood clot risks.

  • Other Health Concerns: Estrogen therapy can increase the risk of gallbladder disease, urinary incontinence, and, in some cases, dementia.

Personalized Treatment Considerations

  • Age and Timing: Starting MHT before age 60 or within 10 years of menopause is associated with more favorable outcomes.

  • Health Status: Women without comorbidities are more likely to benefit from MHT.

  • Hormone Type and Administration Route: Bioidentical hormones, such as estradiol and micronized progesterone, are often preferred due to their chemical similarity to endogenous hormones. Transdermal and vaginal routes may offer a safer profile compared to oral administration.

Conclusion

MHT can be a highly effective treatment for managing menopausal symptoms and preventing long-term health risks when appropriately personalized. It's crucial to consider individual health profiles, preferences, and the latest research to make informed decisions about MHT.
